Video Card Maintenance

I don't know how many if you have keep your video car drivers up-todate, but Civil 3D has the capabilities to do video card driver updates for you. If you go into your options dialog manager select the System tab. Then select check for updatse option. Civil 3D will link to the Autodesk database and search for updates for your video card and install them for you. I did this last year and I noticed a slightly better difference in performance. If you select View Tune Log and your will get all the information you could possibly want about you video card and drivers. You should check this out one day.

  2. I thought this just updated the XML file from Autodesk that contains the certified graphics card list?

  3. Yes you are correct but there are times where some video cards have driver updates. In addition, if you already loaded your XML then a few months later decide to upgrade your video card you would run this update again or download the new updates for the XML file. I think both ways would work fine. This is just my personal opinion though :)

  4. I also want to add that Autodesk only provides drivers for cards that have been certified and tested. I think it's always good to also check with the video cards website for driver updates.
