I am definitely excited about the DFWBIUG training event. This has been three months in the making. It basically became a second job for me trying to find the perfect location, working with all the instructors schedules, and getting sponsors for the event. Now we are just two weeks away. Some of the registered attendees have requested to see a class agenda. As requested, I have posted the preliminary class agenda for each classrooms. In addition to attending classes, attendees will have the opportunity to network and learning about our sponsors software and products, in the exhibit area. We will have roughly 6-8 sponsor/vendor booths. A light lunch will also be provided. After the event, I would like to go to Champs for happy hour. Anyways, I hope to see everyone there. Definitely a great group of instructors for this event. I also posted the class floorplans below.</p> <p><a href="http://www.irvingconventioncenter.com/planners/layout-capacities/ballroom-level/" target="_blank"><strong><font color="#ff0000" Work with InfraWorks 360<span style="color: blue; font-family: inherit;">Here is a recent post I made on our company blog.</span><br />
<div style="margin: 0in 0in 0.0001pt;">
<span style="color: blue; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span><span style="color: blue; font-family: inherit;">Engineering design workflows have evolved during the past 50 years from manual hand drafting on paper, to overlaying scanned GIS maps, to now creating rich compelling 3D rendered models with InfraWorks 360. With InfraWorks 360, design professionals can seamlessly create multiple conceptual design proposals to help evaluate decisions and increase the approval process with clients/developers and city review agencies. </span></div>
<br />
<span style="color: blue;">A</span><span style="color: blue; font-family: inherit;"> few months ago one of our clients came to us with a vision to create a 16 building multi-use project in San Antonio. With only a very basic overall schematic site exhibit, our task was to bring the client's vision to life. Yes, we could have done the norm, by creating a 2D conceptual site plan with maybe a simple Google Sketchup exhibit or PowerPoint slide but we wanted to add a little more realism to the site project and incorporate a BIM workflow. To truly bring realism and tell a story of what the client was proposing to build and enhance the community environment, we created a preliminary concept site model with InfraWorks 360.</span><br />
<span style="color: blue; font-family: inherit;"><br /></span>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKRAZsLcyHjVFDww3LKfeEwacKHDuH-jqY5Reqtg7f-7IpPQrcPDfNB-wqmfXPkZyMoei4y7XcbUYowqm_z9TfuVVhmqV27893c5NToEF8x-IiIoUMf-7EmUbxW1rb1-3YyyHxKOaoJL0/s1600/2016-02-04_12-41-47.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="242" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKRAZsLcyHjVFDww3LKfeEwacKHDuH-jqY5Reqtg7f-7IpPQrcPDfNB-wqmfXPkZyMoei4y7XcbUYowqm_z9TfuVVhmqV27893c5NToEF8x-IiIoUMf-7EmUbxW1rb1-3YyyHxKOaoJL0/s400/2016-02-04_12-41-47.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="color: blue;">With InfraWorks 360, we were able to quickly insert 16 buildings with different footprints, heights and facades. In addition, landscape features such as bushes and trees were also included. Pavement markings. people, and city furniture such as light poles, street signs, trash cans were also added to provide the look, feel and real environment to the model. To add more realism to the 3D model, animated background clouds, and real world sun light environment was created to produce real shadow casting throughout the site model. We were able to view quickly and easily how shadow casting would affect the site during the morning and late afternoon hours. </span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="color: blue;">Once the model was completed, screen shots from varies angles were created. In addition, a video fly-by was also created, to be used during the client presentation. On top of that, the during the client meeting, we used the InfraWorks 360 3D model in a live environment by manually navigating throughout the site model per the clients request. With InfraWorks 360, we were able to quickly and easily make site revisions on the spot.</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="color: blue;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both;">
<span style="color: blue;">With the power of InfraWorks 360, we were able to create a rich compelling visual 3D model in one day and collaborate live with our clients and help them achieve their project vision. With the tools in InfraWorks 360, we were able to win the project and proceed with the project. </span></div>

I hope everyone is enjoying their week. It’s been crazy at work, at our main office, with remodeling on going. Our main conference room was enlarge because it was unable to handle the large project meetings we were having. In addition, we had several offices get a new paint job, new carpeting and tiles. On top of that, some bldg roof maintenance to fix some leaks. Anyways, I can’t wait till it’s all done.</p> <p>Well it’s been roughly a month since we first starting using C3D 2015 for production. Though most of the new features in C3D were basically in the AutoCAD platform, overall I was happy with the new version. Our only issue with C3D 2015 is that it’s sluggish at time. Most of us have been experiencing lag time and freezing with 10 mb-60 mb drawing that contain 2-4 xref’s and data shortcuts. On top if that , it’s seems to struggle at time with drawing that contains large amount of hatching such as landscape and hardscape plans. After spending about a week trying to zone in on the performance problems, and then finding a fix or work around, here is what I have come up with. Hopefully these performance tips will help some of you, that may be experiencing the same issues.</p> <ul> <li><strong>Update your video card drive</strong>. Don’t go thru the Windows Control Panel, but actually go to the video card company website such as Nvidia.</li> <li><strong>Turn off your graphic performance tool</strong>. This can be found in the Options. System Tab. Not once, have I notice any improvement with this feature turned on. Most employees inform me that it works better when its turned off. I also agree.</li> <li>In Options, Selection Tab, Preview section, <strong>uncheck all the preview options</strong> such as the selection preview and command preview.</li> <li>If you are not using the cloud, <strong>log off the Autodesk 360 account</strong>.</li> <li>In Options, Plot and Publish Tab, <strong>uncheck background Plotting and Publishing</strong> </li> <li>Don't have all your tool palettes and dialog boxes always open such having layer manager, properties, sheet set manager, and xref manager. When I am working, I rarely have more then one dialog box open.</li> <li><strong>cleanout or reset your drawing annotation scale list</strong>. You don't need 20-50 different annotation scales. </li> <li>In Windows Task Manager <strong>end process for WSCommCntr.exe</strong>, <strong>raysta_3dmax2015_63server</strong>,<strong> and</strong> <strong>Aec32bitAppServer57exe (and AcSettingSync.exe if you are not using the cloud)</strong></li> <li>make sure your antivirus software is not scanning your Autodesk programs and drawing files.</li> <li>Last but not least, make your <strong>windows paging file larger</strong>. If you have 8 gb of memory, then change your windows paging file to at least 16,000 mb up to 24,000 mb. If this is your work computer, <strong>I would ask your IT Dept first, before performing this task</strong>.</li></ul> <p>Anyways, thanks for checking out my website. Have a great weekend everyone. :)</p> Tonyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06340737993858354721noreply@blogger.com7tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-831653633714681277.post-25283612905855584522014-03-27T08:07:00.001-05:002014-04-02T23:22:06.284-05:00Hello AutoCAD Civil 2015 Part 1Good morning everyone. The file tab dashboard is one of the new addition to Civil 3D interface. For those that use AutoCAD 360 web, it’s somewhat similar to that dashboard. In this dashboard, you can access recent drawings that have been opened. <br />
<a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-u1NzGwRq4F4/UzQidzHP46I/AAAAAAAAHjQ/BSJhN8XUM1o/s1600-h/20140326_1849437.png"><img alt="2014-03-26_18-49-43" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-ZDNgTrcZgR4/UzQifFZmjII/AAAAAAAAHjY/xkGyj6NQrQg/20140326_184943_thumb5.png?imgmax=800" height="82" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="2014-03-26_18-49-43" width="604" /></a> <br />
The second, eye popping new features is the dark display for the color scheme. As a default C3D 2015 is set to the new Dark color scheme. You can easily change it back to the traditional light theme display in the Display tab of the Options display dialog box. <br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-V-zIPoA4PE4/UzQifRTIdmI/AAAAAAAAHjg/cRbYAsnhs2k/s1600-h/2014-03-27_7-28-24%25255B3%25255D.png"><img alt="2014-03-27_7-28-24" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-zY92UW0JPLU/UzQifxu_40I/AAAAAAAAHjk/NVaTOV_OaHM/2014-03-27_7-28-24_thumb%25255B1%25255D.png?imgmax=800" height="484" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="2014-03-27_7-28-24" width="436" /></a><br />
The workspace tools and features at the bottom have a new look. You can easily turn off and on features such as quick properties, grid, gizmo, and snap mode by selecting the last icon the left and checking the features you want on or off. <br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-l0xSOucwUMA/UzQigRkurVI/AAAAAAAAHjw/p9MoJNs6iB0/s1600-h/20140326_1851144.png"><img alt="2014-03-26_18-51-14" border="0" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-zGpN1LCAEs0/UzQihQpkPpI/AAAAAAAAHj4/o8zLFJTH77M/20140326_185114_thumb2.png?imgmax=800" height="172" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="2014-03-26_18-51-14" width="604" /></a><br />
The Autodesk 360 ribbon has a new look with the addition of the AutoCAD 360 Web access tool.<br />
<a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-Hy95JAULWtA/UzQihwDNVCI/AAAAAAAAHkA/bhSxvI73ZkI/s1600-h/20140326_1855317.png"><img alt="2014-03-26_18-55-31" border="0" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-loWRb6RNMpM/UzQijEayYyI/AAAAAAAAHkE/Xv0Jln0buos/20140326_185531_thumb5.png?imgmax=800" height="146" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="2014-03-26_18-55-31" width="604" /></a><br />
The Autodesk Recap button has been added to the Insert ribbon. In addition, the ribbon has a slightly new look. <br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-VVkQteRqXhg/UzQijhCTNAI/AAAAAAAAHkQ/GuWlK1YFkgE/s1600-h/20140326_1857004.png"><img alt="2014-03-26_18-57-00" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-1OUjzcLjfl4/UzQikPPsG0I/AAAAAAAAHkY/YrwisWkFT4g/20140326_185700_thumb2.png?imgmax=800" height="185" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="2014-03-26_18-57-00" width="604" /></a><br />
The Export Civil 3D Drawing tool that was part of the C3d 2014 productivity package is now incorporated into the Output ribbon. <br />
<a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-0qg3X8npbmY/UzQikp6zJWI/AAAAAAAAHkc/lvAEqZDvh98/s1600-h/20140326_1859102.png"><img alt="2014-03-26_18-59-10" border="0" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-R5MMkqih91Y/UzQild5ruEI/AAAAAAAAHko/VblJIa_zcG4/20140326_185910_thumb.png?imgmax=800" height="244" style="border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;" title="2014-03-26_18-59-10" width="220" /></a><br />

The new Geolocation contextual ribbon has been added once you log into your Autodesk 360 account. I really like this feature. <br />
Anyways these are just a new features that has been added to the new AutoCAD Civil 3D. I expect the software to be release to the public in 3-5 weeks. Stay tune to part 2 for a more in depth discussion about the new tools and features. During my trip to AU, I managed to get a video interview with Kevin Breslin from IMAGINiT Technologies. This was actually my first video interview I've ever done, so I was very nervous at the beginning. I want to thank Kevin, Cait, IMAGINiT Technologies and Advantis Comm. for their time and help making this video happen. I had a great time and experience making the video and mingle with the group.<br />
<br />
If you don't know who <a href="http://www.imaginit.com/" target="_blank">IMAGINiT Technologies</a> is, they are the worlds largest provider of enterprise solutions to the engineering community. They have 40 offices throughout North America and Asia Pacific. They are currently our Autodesk reseller at our firm, providing support, implementation services, data & facility management, consultant services, and training in varies formats.<br />
<br />
Anyways, here is my video interview. Enjoy.<br />

It’ always great hearing stories from other firms about their design workflows, company standards, networking, software implementation and collaboration. Anyways, the Venetian hotel is one amazing hotel. If you have never been here, I would recommended added this place on your listed to do if you are ever visiting in Vegas. </font></p> <p><font color="#0000ff">AU 2013 had a record setting attendance of over 9,272 members representing 74 different countries. Walking down the main hallways, it was apparent this years attendance was going to be large also. Throughout the day, I attended a few private roundtable meetings on several software platforms. In addition, I also attended a few InfraWorks classes which turned out to be very interesting. The opening keynote address was also today. I was lucky enough to sit close, to get a good view of the stage. The keynote address started off with a bang with Penn & Teller opening comedy skit. This was actually the first time I have ever watched them live. It was pretty entertaining. After about an 45 minutes of some amazing new Autodesk software presentations we were later surprised again with a live robotic presentation. I was actually just 20 feet from this machine. It was pretty amazing how far we have come with technology. Later that evening, all 9,000 of us were waiting anxiously outside the exhibit hall waiting for the doors to open. It looking like black Friday in front of Best Buy lol. We were all packed in down the main hallways. Things got more interesting when one of the fire alarms went off. After about an hour the doors opens and everyone made a mad rush in to see all the latest design software and toys. The Exhibit hall had everything you could possible think of from plotters, touch screen design TV’s, 3D printing machines, computer workstations, network solutions companies, varies training companies, and many many design software companies. Anyways, I have posted several pictures from events that day. I did have the opportunity to take a picture with Shaan Hurley from <a href="http://autodesk.blogs.com/" target="_blank"><strong><font color="#ff0000">Between The Lines</font></strong></a>. I have also posted a link of the Keynote Address if you wish to watch it. Anyways, I will try to post part 2 later this week. Now that AU is just 2 days away, I would like to provide some links to those not able to attend AU. I have listed below several links for several social sites that <font color="#0000ff">you can follow covering AU 2013. The Autodesk University website provides links to watch the opening keynote address and several classes that you watch live throughout the week. In addition, you can also follow AU with LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook to see comments, videos and pictures being posted. On top of that, you can also follow me on <a href="https://plus.google.com/111635815263403722886/posts" target="_blank"><font color="#ff0000"><strong>Google+</strong></font></a> and <a href="https://twitter.com/TonysC3DWorld" target="_blank"><font color="#ff0000"><strong>Twitter</strong></font></a> as I post live pictures from classes, roundtable discussions, video interviews, exhibit hall, AUGI Beer Fest, Social Media and much more. I will try to post at the end of each night my experiences of that day on here. Anyways, I am definitely excited about the trip. What surprises does AU have for us this year?? <img class="wlEmoticon wlEmoticon-smile" style="border-top-style: none; border-bottom-style: none; border-right-style: none; border-left-style: none" alt="Smile" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-uLwfH6fvdYA/UptUZhmtd5I/AAAAAAAAGLg/T7F45sGmCDY/wlEmoticon-smile%25255B2%25255D.png?imgmax=800"> Stay tune.</font></font></p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://au.autodesk.com/au-online/live-stream" target="_blank"><font color="#ff0000" size="4"><strong>Autodesk University 2013 Live</strong></font></a></p> <p><a href="http://www.linkedin.com/groups/Autodesk-University-1785728" target="_blank"><font color="#ff0000" size="4"><strong>LinkedIn - AU Group</strong></font></a></p> <p><a href="https://twitter.com/AutodeskU" target="_blank"><font color="#ff0000" size="4"><strong>Twitter - AU 2013</strong></font></a></p> <p><a href="https://www.facebook.com/AutodeskUniversity" target="_blank"><font color="#ff0000" size="4"><strong>Facebook - AU 2013</strong></font></a></p> Tonyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06340737993858354721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-831653633714681277.post-11508813867870552232013-11-19T01:07:00.001-06:002013-11-19T01:07:12.764-06:00Autodesk Vehicle Tracking 2014<div class="wlWriterHeaderFooter" style="float:right; margin:0px; padding:0px 0px 4px 8px;"><script type="text/javascript">digg_url = "http://tonyscivil3dworld.blogspot.com/2013/11/autodesk-vehicle-tracking-2014.html";digg_title = "Autodesk Vehicle Tracking 2014";digg_bgcolor = "#ADBBD5";digg_skin = "normal";</script><script src="http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript">digg_url = undefined;digg_title = undefined;digg_bgcolor = undefined;digg_skin = undefined;</script></div><p><font color="#0000ff">Every project we work on, whether you are an architect or engineer, we perform some type of design analysis to ensure our design meets local, state, or federal construction standards. In Civil 3D, we can perform slope, grading, sight distance, drainage and hydraulic, road vertical analysis and much more. Now with the new addition of Autodesk Vehicle Tracking 2014 software, we can now add vehicle swept path analysis to the list. </font></p> <p><font color="#0000ff">Just early last week, Autodesk introduced the new <a href="http://www.autodesk.com/products/vehicle-tracking/overview" target="_blank"><strong><font color="#0000ff">Autodesk Vehicle Tracking 2014</font></strong></a><font color="#0000ff"></font> (formally known as Auto Track) software to the world. This software was acquired by Autodesk from Savoy Computing Services in August. Autodesk Vehicle Tracking software performs transportation analysis for vehicle swept path. In addition, it also provides design solution for vehicle movements in areas such as parking lots. The software also allows you to evaluate steering movements for light rail vehicles and aircrafts. Last but not least, Autodesk Vehicle Tracking can assist in designing parking lots and road intersections such as roundabout. Another positive note about the software is that it is fully integrated into Autodesk software such as AutoCAD, AutoCAD Civil 3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, AutoCAD Map 3D and AutoCAD Utility Design software. With capabilities of 3D modeling, performing vertical clearance, vertical grades and crossfalls, this software can help designers and civil engineers optimize their design faster. </font></p> <p><font color="#0000ff"></font> <font color="#0000ff">I have provided several screenshots of the numerous setting and features that comes with this software. In this post I would like to share a tip on how to create shapefiles from Civil 3D parcels. So far this is the only way I know how to convert parcels to shapefiles but I am sure there are other methods out there. Hopefully this will be helpful to some of you.</p> <p>Before we get started we have to discuss coordinate system. We all know all firms are different and have different workflows. Some firms may create their plats in state plane and some on surface. If your plat containing your parcels was created on surface, you will have to perform a coordinate conversion or move the data once it has been import from an SDF file. In this example I will make my drawing in state plane to simplify things.</p> <ul> <li>Open the drawing that contain the parcel data you wish to transfer.</li> <li>Select the <strong><font color="#ff0000">OUTPUT</font></strong> Tab on the ribbon then select <strong><font color="#ff0000">Export Civil Objects to SDF</font></strong>.</li></ul> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-Q4OBRXQ-Uhg/UnhL_yf_UUI/AAAAAAAAGFM/0jXguqyvLvM/s1600-h/11-4-2013%2525206-25-07%252520PM%25255B3%25255D.png"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="11-4-2013 6-25-07 PM" border="0" alt="11-4-2013 6-25-07 PM" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-wrCKfqH1em4/UnhMAQOzi2I/AAAAAAAAGFU/1j_P3U2op7Y/11-4-2013%2525206-25-07%252520PM_thumb%25255B1%25255D.png?imgmax=800" width="504" height="106"></a></p> <ul> <li>The Export to SDF dialog box will appear. On the first row, browse to the desire location you wish to save the SDF file and assign a name. Then set the coordinate system if not assigned.</li></ul> <p><a href="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-msiMXQZ2YtM/UnhMA0pNZzI/AAAAAAAAGFc/z8oKnJlp52s/s1600-h/11-4-2013%2525206-20-52%252520PM%25255B3%25255D.png"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: block; float: none; margin-left: auto; border-top: 0px; margin-right: auto; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="11-4-2013 6-20-52 PM" border="0" alt="11-4-2013 6-20-52 PM" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-dC3D9iuwqy0/UnhMBhktPXI/AAAAAAAAGFk/G-95iqKsf-o/11-4-2013%2525206-20-52%252520PM_thumb%25255B1%25255D.png?imgmax=800" width="404" height="281"></a></p> <ul> <li>Next, open a new drawing and set the same coordinate system as the file we just saved. </li> <li> On the command line type <strong><font color="#ff0000">MAPIMPORT</font></strong> and browse to the SDF at we just created and select <font color="#ff0000"><strong>OK</strong></font>.</li> <li>The import dialog box will appear. Check the <font color="#ff0000"><strong>Import polygon as close Polylines options</strong></font>. You will need to send all these files with your shapefile.</li> <li>Before you send your new shapfile out the door, I would run a quick test by import the shapefile using the <font color="#ff0000"><strong>Data Connect</strong></font> feature in the Planning & Analysis workspace or the <font color="#ff0000"><strong>MAPIMPORT</strong></font> command and import the new shapefile. Then use the <font color="#ff0000"><strong>GEOMAP</strong></font> feature to ensure all the linework aligns with the aerial and appears in the correct location. Anyways I hope this information will be useful to you. Have a great week and thanks for stopping by. </li></ul> Tonyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06340737993858354721noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-831653633714681277.post-27497924706499785252013-08-21T07:57:00.001-05:002013-08-21T08:03:54.897-05:00Imaginit Google Earth Import in Civil 3D 2014<p>Good morning everyone. This morning I would like to share some interesting and maybe important information to a few of you. As we all know, the Google Earth extension in C3D 2012 was a power tool that most of us utilize on a daily or weekly basis. That feature was removed and replaced in the 2013 version with the Project BaseJump (Bing Map extension). The Bing Map extension was useful but there was a few draw backs with printing and saving images. Well, just recently our reseller <a href="http://www.imaginit.com/" target="_blank"><strong><font color="#ff0000">Imaginit</font></strong></a> released a new 2014 Utility application tool that put a smile back on my face and our planners. <strong>Imaginit Utilities for Civil 3D 2014</strong> includes the AutoOffset, Point Station Report, and last by not least, Import from Google Earth. This feature allows you to bring in aerial images (georeferenced images) and terrain tin surface or both straight into Civil 3D. </p> <p>Imaginit is our reseller and subscription account holder for all of our Autodesk software. For those who have subscription thru Imaginit, the Utilities for Civil 3D 2014 is free. In addition, you can download the stand-alone or named-user versions. With the stand-alone installation, you are only allowed 10 seats. You may want to contact Imaginit if you need more. If you are interested in purchasing or finding more information about the Utilities for Civil 3D 2014 or other software click link below. </p> <p><a href="http://www.imaginit.com/software-solutions/civil-engineering" target="_blank"><font color="#ff0000"><strong><u>Imaginit Civil Engineering</u></strong></font></a></p> <p>The download and installation is quick and easy. After you have completed the installation, you will see a new Imaginit tab on the ribbon. I have provided below a short video presentation on how easy it is to import Google Earth images now. I also like to add, that you can insert as many images as you like. In order for this feature to work your drawing must have a coordinate system assign such state plane. Currently all the images are saved locally on your C drive but you can easily move and relink the images in your xref manager. I have not tested the other utility tools yet but you can contact Imaginit to get a free demo to test. Hopefully this information will be useful to a few of you. Thanks for stopping by. </p> <p><a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/--Q2LqEJ-D48/UhS5LbFqHSI/AAAAAAAAGDs/SDyEAXA3HTs/s1600-h/8-21-2013%2525207-19-44%252520AM.png"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="8-21-2013 7-19-44 AM" border="0" alt="8-21-2013 7-19-44 AM" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-wvtC3Xv9u9Y/UhS5L5i4CXI/AAAAAAAAGD0/lfnJhExhC58/8-21-2013%2525207-19-44%252520AM_thumb.png?imgmax=800" width="604" height="89"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-6RsYU4J278o/UhS5MRZFuiI/AAAAAAAAGD8/KrnMPdp6xJE/s1600-h/8-20-2013-8-01-31-AM2.png"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="8-20-2013 8-01-31 AM" border="0" alt="8-20-2013 8-01-31 AM" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-T6XQcn-b2Do/UhS5M0HcDFI/AAAAAAAAGEE/MbWDvcwqsag/8-20-2013-8-01-31-AM_thumb2.png?imgmax=800" width="266" height="115"></a></p> <div style="padding-bottom: 0px; margin: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; float: none; padding-top: 0px" id="scid:5737277B-5D6D-4f48-ABFC-DD9C333F4C5D:8cd965f1-8770-43b6-87f8-2be937299bee" class="wlWriterEditableSmartContent"><div id="2a47594d-f493-458a-8d4e-299a4eaf5ada" style="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; display: inline;"><div><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MPwCOu2c_e4" target="_new"><img src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-3uk44Bnkdt4/UhS5NbdXazI/AAAAAAAAGEg/dXi2HAqmD0c/video90c2c43b10a8%25255B38%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" style="border-style: none" galleryimg="no" onload="var downlevelDiv = document.getElementById('2a47594d-f493-458a-8d4e-299a4eaf5ada'); downlevelDiv.innerHTML = "<div><object width=\"577\" height=\"356\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/MPwCOu2c_e4?hl=en&hd=1\"><\/param><embed src=\"http://www.youtube.com/v/MPwCOu2c_e4?hl=en&hd=1\" type=\"application/x-shockwave-flash\" width=\"577\" height=\"356\"><\/embed><\/object><\/div>";" alt=""></a></div></div><div style="width:577px;clear:both;font-size:.8em">Imaginit Google Earth Import</div></div> Tonyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06340737993858354721noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-831653633714681277.post-2303945882568245232013-08-14T21:59:00.001-05:002013-08-14T22:11:26.339-05:00Autodesk Software Training Companies<div class="wlWriterHeaderFooter" style="float:right; margin:0px; padding:0px 0px 4px 8px;"><script type="text/javascript">digg_url = "http://tonyscivil3dworld.blogspot.com/2013/08/autodesk-software-training-companies.html";digg_title = "Autodesk Software Training Companies";digg_bgcolor = "#ADBBD5";digg_skin = "normal";</script><script src="http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript">digg_url = undefined;digg_title = undefined;digg_bgcolor = undefined;digg_skin = undefined;</script></div><p><font color="#0000ff">Hi everyone. I hope everyone is enjoying their week. Our company just recently had our yearly company campout. I was able to take my daughter for the first time and she had an amazing time swimming and tubing at the lake. Our company campout is a whole weekend event where everyone kicks back relaxes, have a few drinks, grill, swim, listen to music, tube, fish and play some golf. We work hard but we also play hard. Overall, it’s a great experience for all of our employees and family.</font></p> <p><font color="#0000ff">Anyways, tonight I want to share some great training companies that provide different verity of training resources such as live online classes, classrooms, recorded webcasts, courseware and customize training. I have listed below (in no particular order) a few training companies that I know of. As we all know, training is crucial for all cad users. I always tell our techs and engineers that our design software is only as good as the user. Providing training in-house or by an out source company is vital for all engineering firms. I always encourage our techs and engineers to watch training videos, read one a few pages from one of our many Civil 3D books, or even just practice playing around with features on the ribbon during their free time. Anyways, hopefully this information will be useful to a few of you. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy.</font></p> <ul> <li><a href="http://www.imaginit.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>IMAGINIT</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.cad-1.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>CAD-1</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.cad-techs.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>CAD-TECHS</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.eaglepoint.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>EAGLEPOINT</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.ascented.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>ASCENT</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.microdesk.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>MICRODESK</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.coins-global.com/usa/h/Solutions/AutoCAD/1392/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>COINS</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.atgusa.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>ATG USA</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.eng-eff.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>ENGINEERED EFFICIENCY</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://enceptia.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>ENCEPTIA</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.cadmasters.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>CAD MASTERS</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.ideateinc.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>IDEATE</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.cadlearning.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>CAD LEARNING</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.ecadinc.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>ECAD</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.ledet.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>LEDET</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.advancedsolutions.com/training/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>ADVANCED SOLUTIONS</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.cadsoft-consult.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>CADSOFT</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.mastergraphics.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>MASTER GRAPHICS</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.caddmicrosystems.com/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>CADD MICROSYSTEMS</strong></font></a><font color="#008000"><strong> </strong></font> <li><a href="http://www.cadapult.net/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>CADAPULT</strong></font></a> <li><a href="http://www.globaletraining.ca/" target="_blank"><font color="#008000"><strong>GLOBAL ETRAINING</strong></font></a></li></ul> Tonyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06340737993858354721noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-831653633714681277.post-65876305610044117952013-06-14T01:23:00.001-05:002013-06-14T01:23:28.704-05:00The New Certified BIM Specialist: Road and Highway Solutions 2014<div class="wlWriterHeaderFooter" style="float:right; margin:0px; padding:0px 0px 4px 8px;"><script type="text/javascript">digg_url = "http://tonyscivil3dworld.blogspot.com/2013/06/the-new-certified-bim-specialist-road.html";digg_title = "The New Certified BIM Specialist: Road and Highway Solutions 2014";digg_bgcolor = "#ADBBD5";digg_skin = "normal";</script><script src="http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript">digg_url = undefined;digg_title = undefined;digg_bgcolor = undefined;digg_skin = undefined;</script></div><p>Good morning everyone. I hope everyone is having a great week. It has been a crazy two weeks for me dealing with implementation and customization of our 2 new telephone & internet services at our two offices. On top of that, helping with the setup and installation of several new workstations and coordination with the IT Dept. with the planning and implementation of our new network server this week. In addition, kicking off two new large projects. Fun!</p> <p>Anyways, I just found out some very interesting news from Autodesk today. It seems Autodesk has just created its first BIM certification exam: <strong>Certified BIM Specialist: Road and Highway Solutions 2014</strong>. This certification exam will test the knowledge and skills of designers, engineers and land planners using the BIM workflow across multiple software platforms using the Infrastructure Design Suite to creating and modifying road and highway designs. The exam topics covers over Project planning, Preliminary design, Detail design and Visual communication. If you would like to learn more about this certification exam see links below.</p> <p>Personally, I think this is a great step for Autodesk. I was wondering how long it would be before something like this would start. Even though this test mostly uses InfraWorks and Civil 3D, I hope to see another exam that will incorporate Naviswork and 3ds Max Design. So what will that certified specialist be called then? Jedi? lol. Anyways, thanks for stopping by and feel free to make comments. </p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://www.revitcommunity.com/feature_article.php?cpfeatureid=75581&g=65cadfa8-98ac-11e2-af78-d4ae52bb7f09" target="_blank"><strong><font color="#0000ff">Podcast Interview With Cathy Palmer</font></strong></a></p> <p><a href="http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/item?siteID=123112&id=21890104" target="_blank"><strong><font color="#0000ff">Autodesk Certification Handout</font></strong></a></p> <p><a href="http://www.ascented.com/courseware-solutions/autodesk/courseware/overview" target="_blank"><strong><font color="#0000ff">Ascent 2014 Certification Training Courseware List</font></strong></a></p> Tonyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06340737993858354721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-831653633714681277.post-22017537146129516952013-06-07T00:48:00.001-05:002013-06-07T00:48:52.522-05:00Civil 3D 2014 Round-Tripping With Corridors<div class="wlWriterHeaderFooter" style="float:right; margin:0px; padding:0px 0px 4px 8px;"><script type="text/javascript">digg_url = "http://tonyscivil3dworld.blogspot.com/2013/06/civil-3d-2014-round-tripping-with.html";digg_title = "Civil 3D 2014 Round-Tripping With Corridors";digg_bgcolor = "#ADBBD5";digg_skin = "normal";</script><script src="http://digg.com/tools/diggthis.js" type="text/javascript"></script><script type="text/javascript">digg_url = undefined;digg_title = undefined;digg_bgcolor = undefined;digg_skin = undefined;</script></div><p><font color="#0000ff">Hi everyone. I don’t know if everyone has noticed, but the economy is booming. Working 12 hours shifts is starting to be a norm for me now. That’s why I have not been posting much lately. Sorry. So I decided to do my own test and post my results here. Sorry the video has no audio.</font></p> <ol> <li><font color="#0000ff">In this first video, I opened a subdivision grading design base drawing containing all of our proposed features lines, grading groups, surfaces, alignments and profiles. In this next video I created a very simple corridor in 2014. I then opened the same drawing in 2013 and ran a few quick test. Even though it was not a large corridor drawing I feel confident that I would get the same results. The most interesting thing about these results were that when I tried these same test at my home computer it crashed and fatal error. The only difference between my home and work workstation is network connection and memory. My work computer has 24 GB memory and my home PC has 8 GB. I then tried the same test with a another workstation at work that only had 8 GB of memory with a slightly older processor and had no issue or errors. Anyways, I know everyone has different templates and workflows but email me if you have a drawing that keeps crash in 2013 and I will run a test with my workstation and see if it crashes on me. For those of you on subscription, C3D 2014 is now available for download. In addition, you can also download the Infrastructure Design Suite Premium if you opted to upgraded a few or all your licensed seats. The upgrade and renewal cost is cheap if you choose to upgrade a few seats. If you are large firm with several hundred or a few thousands employees, this can be an extremely pricy renewal cost. How many licenses of IDS do you need you ask? It depends how many users will actually use most of all the software that comes IDS. Anyways, I personally think this version of C3D comes with much less bugs than 2013. Like most software, there will always be a few bugs and glitches. I have posted a few images of new features incorporated into the C3D 2014. Enjoy </span><br />

Now for those of you that upgraded to the Infrastructure Design Suite Premium, Civil 3D 2014 will have another extra feature. The Raster tool has be incorporated into the ribbon. These are some of the same features you would find in Raster Design 2014 software. <br />
<a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-wfev3qVhyQc/UYZ1soA3yrI/AAAAAAAAGBM/1V4o37IVuDk/s1600-h/5-5-2013%2525208-29-03%252520AM%25255B6%25255D.png"><img alt="5-5-2013 8-29-03 AM" border="0" height="82" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-KfWpuqSkvIQ/UYZ1s74igAI/AAAAAAAAGBQ/YvS7zAO-xV8/5-5-2013%2525208-29-03%252520AM_thumb%25255B4%25255D.png?imgmax=800" style="background-image: none; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px; border-top-width: 0px; display: inline; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px;" title="5-5-2013 8-29-03 AM" width="604" /></a><br />
Overall this release of C3D runs much smoother and has much less glitches. On the other hand, it does has less new features from its predecessors. I highly encourage all subscription members to at least upgrade one license of C3D to the Infrastructure Design Suite. I’m sure there are a few features in each software that can make your company more efficient and productive. <br />
For those of you that have been emailing about finishing my roundabout post I apologize for not writing back. I have been having a tough time finding the images that I used for that particular post. In addition, I have been extremely busy with work. Anyways, I will be submitting my class proposal for roundabout design with corridors Monday or Tuesday. Hopefully Autodesk will approve my class. I will try to email everyone back sometime this week about the roundabout questions you emailed me. Once again thank you for viewing my blog. Feel free to make comments or request. I hope everyone’s weekend is going great. I want to congratulate my fight Irish for making to the BCS championship game. Even though we lost, I feel it’s better to lose to the #2 team at the championship game than to play a lower ranking team at a small bowl game. Anyways, it was an amazing year for them. Now I just need my 49ers win the super bowl. GO 49ers! They should have been there last year but of course they had a fumble in overtime that caused them the game. You’re welcome New York Giants. lol</font></p> <p><font color="#0000ff">Anyways, 2012 was an amazing year. The one thing I noticed about my blog for 2012 was the lack of post from me. Seems like I was a slacker lol. This year, my goal is to publish 100 post and maybe hit the 1 million page views. Let’s see if I can make it happen. Since this is my first post of the year, I will kicked it off with a simple tip & trick for labeling horizontal pipe bends. For those of you that have small basic part list and use null structures to represent wye connection, vertical and horizontal, and pipe sizes changes, I have a tricks that could make it easier for you to label bends. As we all know, we all strive to work smarter not harder. This tricks may or may not benefit you, depending on your company standards, work flow or part list. The main purpose of this post is to give you ideas and ways to get creative with labels. The video below describes how you can label horizontal bends for storm and water pipes. We have actually been having cold days here in Dallas, Texas. Last year we didn’t have a winter, just 2 cold days. Anyways, back to AU. Wednesday at AU was also another informative day. After the Grab & GO breakfast, I headed to my first class,s which was an advance SSA class. The class was taught by the SSA guru himself, Matthew Anderson. Out of the 50 so classmates attending, there was only 3 of us that were not engineers. There was actually another cad manager (Juan) from the DFW area that I knew and follow on tweeter. This class ending up being the second best class of the day. What I enjoyed about this class was Matt asking question first . He wanted to know what types of issue or problems we were facing with SSA. During his lecture and presentation he would answer those questions if could. I got a few of my questions answered in the class.</p> <p>The rest of the classes were good but not great. The rest of the day I attended a Pressure Pipe Network classes, Applying SSA and Autodesk Navisworks to Subdivision Development class, Curbing with new featureline application class, and last but not least, the Raster Imagery for Mapping and Land Development class. The raster imagery class was the best class of the day. It was very informative with a great presentation. David Zavslan, CAD Manager for NV5 presentation covered over imagery features and comparisons with Civil 3D, Map 3D and Raster Design. After what I saw, I was ready to go home and play around with raster design and see how I could incorporate the software into our company workflow. </p> <p>After all the classes, I ended up going back to the Exhibit Hall to check our a few more booths. While I was there, I ran into a fellow USAF airmen. If you don’t know, I spend 4 years in the USAF in the civil engineering squadron in Florida. It was a great experience. Anyways I had a good time hanging out with a USAF member again. In addition, I also spend some time with Christian Barrett, the AutoCAD Civil 3D Community Director at <a href="http://www.augi.com" target="_blank"><font color="#0000ff">AUGI</font></a> . We ended up having some great conversations. On top of that, I ran into the famous Lynn Allen at one of the booths. I just had to take a picture with her lol. After about 2 hours of checking our booths, I ended up leaving and went back to the hotel bar few a beers. See images below for pictures I took throughout the day. I felt and looked like a tourist lol. </p> <p> </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-JHf8MusWvlA/UMzs3R9Ev7I/AAAAAAAAF24/c0IZebxxjEA/s1600-h/20121128_201220%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="20121128_201220" border="0" alt="20121128_201220" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-7iGFizTDVnI/UMzs4R60vEI/AAAAAAAAF3A/dHoH1NRqjqs/20121128_201220_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a> <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-q036C0iAtKs/UMzs6CmdL9I/AAAAAAAAF3I/PSF-rF-RNDo/s1600-h/20121128_202951%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="20121128_202951" border="0" alt="20121128_202951" src="http://lh5.ggpht.com/-jj0Rorsck7c/UMzs6wxlLnI/AAAAAAAAF3Q/w8k1SutcpGM/20121128_202951_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-22w90lUvPxY/UMzs8BB2PfI/AAAAAAAAF3Y/81siYoqaf-E/s1600-h/20121127_200323%25255B7%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="20121127_200323" border="0" alt="20121127_200323" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-rIhMTtfpsH8/UMzs9Lj1giI/AAAAAAAAF3g/T_MlSujISHY/20121127_200323_thumb%25255B1%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a> <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-PSyHGhAXegI/UMzs-xz-h8I/AAAAAAAAF3o/N02Fjau0k5E/s1600-h/20121128_200137%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-right-width: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="20121128_200137" border="0" alt="20121128_200137" src="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-tunCC55tZU4/UMzs_zEY9_I/AAAAAAAAF3w/HcCeCRDTqaE/20121128_200137_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a></p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-33fB9fzRhow/UMztBaeo5uI/AAAAAAAAF34/Bn0IHUXOjVY/s1600-h/20121127_192501%25255B98%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="20121127_192501" border="0" alt="20121127_192501" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-LpSdfto1Pts/UMztCIfCmII/AAAAAAAAF4A/9ze-ZKSP_zU/20121127_192501_thumb%25255B96%25255D.jpg?imgmax=800" width="354" height="93"></a> <a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-3yYIODQYGoE/UMztDXfAStI/AAAAAAAAF4I/KqE6ZranXEI/s1600-h/20121127_112711%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="20121127_112711" border="0" alt="20121127_112711" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-GFiPJQd_yvE/UMztEQVQI7I/AAAAAAAAF4Q/87cIGFaQ6nQ/20121127_112711_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a> <a href="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-b0arszlziOI/UMztHFfeSSI/AAAAAAAAF4Y/1mNT-OFtoow/s1600-h/20121128_114152%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="20121128_114152" border="0" alt="20121128_114152" src="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-u4Sfgf0J95I/UMztItavTpI/AAAAAAAAF4g/ZZF89uxRmFw/20121128_114152_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="244" height="184"></a> <a href="http://lh4.ggpht.com/-fpb1y0p1-t8/UMztKvn5PII/AAAAAAAAF4o/tbD0ahpkIH0/s1600-h/20121127_190502%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; border-bottom: 0px; border-left: 0px; padding-left: 0px; padding-right: 0px; display: inline; border-top: 0px; border-right: 0px; padding-top: 0px" title="20121127_190502" border="0" alt="20121127_190502" src="http://lh3.ggpht.com/-0dCSzBDdvS8/UMztLXGZncI/AAAAAAAAF4w/JC0Hsva4lCA/20121127_190502_thumb.jpg?imgmax=800" width="184" height="244"></a></p> Tonyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06340737993858354721noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-831653633714681277.post-50903302402548037902012-12-06T17:39:00.001-06:002012-12-06T17:39:33.709-06:00Day 3 Of AU 2012<p>Good afternoon everyone. Well it has been an extremely busy week for me at work. I had a lot of work waiting for me while I was gone. I worked 14 hours the first 2 days back, then an all nighter last night. In order to re-energize I took the day off. Tomorrow is our company’s xmas party. I can’t wait. Anyways I have been slowly but surely recovering my blog pots. Thanks you for be patient. </p> <p>Anyways, back at AU week, on Tuesday we started the day off with the keynote address. It was an amazing site to see the Event Center filled with roughly 10,000 AU members from architects, civil engineers, designers, instructors, owners, directors, IT , mechanical engineers, structural engineers, programmers, and techs. They had several speakers from the famous Lynn Allen to the president Carl Bass. The keynote address new innovation design software and a few featured design concepts. In addition, we were introduced to a 12 yrs old boy that was working with Autodesk to great new design software. Overall the keynote address was a big hit.</p> <p>Later that day I attended my first true classes that I signed up for. I have provided the list of classes that I attended below. Some classes were too basic for me so I moved on. The cool thing was, we were able to leave at anytime and go into another class, if there was any seats available. At the end of day, the Exhibit Hall opened for the first time. We were all packed in at the front of the entrance like it was black Friday at Best Buy lol. There must be at least 100 exhibitors from Leica, HP, CAD Masters, AUGI, BOXX, Cannon, Imaginit, Dell, CAD Learning, and may more. After about 3 hours of walking around (with a few free beers) it was time to go. I spend a few more hours at the hotel bars with other fellow AU members that I knew from tweeter. The day went incredibly fast but it was great. See images below.</p> <ul> <li><font color="#0000ff">Surveying:Cleaning Your Dirt Data (C+)</font></li> <li><font color="#0000ff">Using Autodesk Infrastructure Design Suite for Data Collection and Preliminary Design Work (A-)</font></li> <li><font color="#0000ff">Using Geotechnical Data in AutoCAD Civil 3D (B+)</font></li> <li><font color="#0000ff">Ten Practically Awesome Grading Examples (B-)</font></li></ul> <p><font color="#0000ff"></font> </p> <p><a href="http://lh6.ggpht.com/-RrYnnKOvgVs/UMEsDJoIdXI/AAAAAAAAFuQ/X0kHwY9hqiI/s1600-h/20121127_085209%25255B3%25255D.jpg"><img style="background-image: none; If you have not noticed all my images in my blog have disappeared. Here is what happened. Last week I decided to link my Google+ account with Google Blogger. Yesterday I noticed an that all my images and videos in my blog have been updated to my phone which ate up a lot of space. So I decided to removed the Google+ link then removed the images from my phone. Well it seems there a small clause that I fail to understand. It seems that when I was deleting the images from my phone it also deleted the images from Picasa which is where all the images are stored for Google Blogger, which I never knew. Now I to go back thru each post and find all my images and repost. This will take me some time. If you know how to restore my image and video links please send me an email or post. Thank you for viewing my blog and hopefully I can get it all back to the way it was </p> Tonyhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06340737993858354721noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-831653633714681277.post-10966818399005947522012-11-29T12:16:00.001-06:002012-12-03T22:48:59.978-06:00Day 2 of AUHi everyone. Well today the Infrastructure symposium classes started. The first class was a general class splashing over all the new technology and innovation in visualization, collaboration that was coming out. They introduce a few new software such as Pictometry and Autodesk Fusion 306. Both software was pretty amazing. There were a few others that dealt with imagery. The second class was over land development dealing with small and large scale projects.. Most of the design examples were in Vancouver, Canada. The third class if I remember right, was over networking. Anyways, here are a few pictures I took that day. Oh yeah on this I ran into the famous Dana Probert and James Wedding. In addition, I also ran into Ian, Kati and Juan that I follow on tweeter. My last class was freshman orientation. There must have been 1,000 members in this a large room. Lynn Allen gave the welcoming speech to us. It was an awesome sight to see that many newcomers. At each table they assign a mentor to provide guidance and helpful types. Luckily for me, I had Rick Ellis at my table. If you don't know who Rick Ellis is, he is the author of <a href="http://www.cadapult-software.com/product_info.php/c/books/p/a-practical-guide-to-autocad-civil-3d-2013/cPath/1/products_id/54" target="_blank"><b><span style="color: red;">A Practical Guide to AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013</span></b></a>. This is a great book to have. I have was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy where at AU. Anyways, later the evening I had a chance to hangout with Dana and James from Autodesk. Two people I really look up to. Anyways, I ended up get the first golden "I'm Digging This" shovel that Dana was handing out to those that could find her that night. Overall the day was pretty amazing.<br />

So I arrived today in Vegas sometime around 1 pm coming from Dallas. I checked into Mandalay Bay hotel and went straight to my room. I looked outside my window to check out the strip. I unpacked my clothes and headed downstairs to find the AU convention center and also walked around the hotel and ruin in the sites. I then headed back to my room and chilled and relaxed. At 4 o'clock I headed back to the convention center for registration. While I was there I ran into Scott Sheppard from Autodesk Labs. In addition, I ran into one of or resellers from Imaginit. Within 15 minutes I witness several hundred AU members get registered. The rest of the evening I mingled with other AU members from all parts of the US. Anyways, I have attached a few pictures from today's events. <br />

I hope everyone is having a great week. This morning I would like to go over a work around for Civil 3D 2013 part builder bug. I will first begin by saying that is my work around for this problem. There may be other methods of solving this issue like making edits in the xml file or just using your own block to display every storm and sewer structure within the part style. It’s really up to you and what best fits you company workflow. <br />
So as many of you my already know, the Part Building bug does not allow you change the Parameter Configuration wall thickness (Wth) from Constant to List so you can add other wall thickness such as 3”, 5” or 8”. This can be a serious problem because the structures will not display the correct size on your plan. Below, I will guide you step by step on fixing this problem quickly and easily. Before you begin please make a backup copy of your Pipes Catalog folder.<br />
First go into part builder. Lets first work on the <span style="color: red;"><strong>Rectangular Junction Structure NF</strong></span>. I typically use this structure for curb inlets, grate inlets, wye inlets and junctions boxes. Expand the <span style="color: red;"><strong>Junction Structure without Frames</strong></span> and select <span style="color: red;"><strong>Rectangular Junction Structure NF.</strong> <span style="color: blue;">Then click</span><span style="color: blue;"> </span><span style="color: blue;">the</span><strong> Modified Part Sizes button.</strong> </span>Inside part builder expand <strong><span style="color: red;">Size Parameters</span></strong>. As you can see everything looks normal.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKGtnUGXoEO30pCypj2qRBAQrcaMXtmnS_4hmbaPPFhMxauiJzwzPFFwFdPbdaTETqd5-Jo_mkgygWctjfN_3elUgF7autE-d9sUaOtkuoshi7XXwQTVLyAR98iFhk9873ky4cfBXdhEo/s1600/2012-10-25_0807.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgKGtnUGXoEO30pCypj2qRBAQrcaMXtmnS_4hmbaPPFhMxauiJzwzPFFwFdPbdaTETqd5-Jo_mkgygWctjfN_3elUgF7autE-d9sUaOtkuoshi7XXwQTVLyAR98iFhk9873ky4cfBXdhEo/s320/2012-10-25_0807.png" width="267" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivmcNL0ocqnmThmED4qGSamaFkcenr1BZ2_rpIpi73pGbKQ896CFSwTV3nAiV_o8dgSDCGq9Wuqz-1z0xKg9Ux-Uz2MN5Mbr2oUWtcKXL30cP3Rf9PTBxUQ2_U3fKn5v6qRMQyNeHQSnE/s1600/2012-10-25_0740.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEivmcNL0ocqnmThmED4qGSamaFkcenr1BZ2_rpIpi73pGbKQ896CFSwTV3nAiV_o8dgSDCGq9Wuqz-1z0xKg9Ux-Uz2MN5Mbr2oUWtcKXL30cP3Rf9PTBxUQ2_U3fKn5v6qRMQyNeHQSnE/s320/2012-10-25_0740.png" width="245" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<br />
Now right click on the <strong><span style="color: red;">Size Parameters</span></strong> and select <strong><span style="color: red;">Edit Configuration</span></strong>. Under the Wth (Wall thickness) column click on the Constant item. A small pull down will appear. Change to <span style="color: red;"><strong>List</strong> <span style="color: blue;">and click</span> <strong>Ok.</strong> </span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ-Z7wfuPRfDefcwco2Vq2F9b-ilehMtl9_cwPbTTsrgkFSAOwNG0XJN81UQnQhBndm7yASw0qT7w9xPZCYPHoScZglcPHOJYNWDgA9XT8HSgXgffPuwuV6aQFENxqGIb23QzQ9iQjaaU/s1600/2012-10-25_0740_001.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="284" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQ-Z7wfuPRfDefcwco2Vq2F9b-ilehMtl9_cwPbTTsrgkFSAOwNG0XJN81UQnQhBndm7yASw0qT7w9xPZCYPHoScZglcPHOJYNWDgA9XT8HSgXgffPuwuV6aQFENxqGIb23QzQ9iQjaaU/s640/2012-10-25_0740_001.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Now look at your Size Parameters list. As you can see the <span style="color: red;"><strong>WALL_THICKNESS</strong></span> parameter has been added. You can add any wall thickness you want, but it will not recognize the value. This is the bug that Autodesk is currently working on. Now lets work on our work around. Right click on the <span style="color: red;"><strong>WALL_THICKNESS</strong></span> parameter and select <span style="color: red;"><strong>delete.</strong></span> <br />

Go back into you Edit Part Size dialog box by right clicking on <span style="color: red;"><strong>Size Parameters</strong></span> and selecting <span style="color: red;"><strong>Edit Values.</strong> </span><span style="color: blue;">Under wall thickness (WTh) change the default wall thickness from 2 to 6. Our ultimate goal is to have the correct outer boundary dimensions so our structure display correctly. For example a 6’ junction box per our city standard details have 8” walls. Since we want to use 6” wall thickness as our constant, I will make up the other 4 inches (2” for both sides of the wall) by adding it to my <span style="color: red;"><strong>Inner structure width (SIW)</strong></span> and <span style="color: red;"><strong>Inner structure length (SIL).</strong></span> (Use a wall thickness that is most common for all of your structures). Click on the default value for the Inner structure width (SIW) and then select the <span style="color: red;"><strong>NEW</strong></span> icon up top. Now add your new value here such as 76 inches for our 6’ junction box. While we are here, go ahead and add any other additional sizes that you will need for curb inlets, grate inlets, wye inlets, or junctions boxes. Click <span style="color: red;"><strong>Ok</strong></span> when done. Next go into the Inner structure length (SIL) and add all your new values. Click <strong><span style="color: red;">OK</span></strong> when done.</span><br />

Now click the <span style="color: red;"><strong>validate icon</strong></span> up top ( Traffic Sign icon) then the <span style="color: red;"><strong>Save</strong></span> icon. Close part builder. Now go back into your parts list structure and update your structure inner widths and lengths with the new values that we added. As you can see my new values are available for me to use.<br />

Good evening everyone. As some of you may already know, Autodesk Labs has brought back Project Basejump. The Autodesk Gods have answered my prayers lol. Anyways, I tested the application in May when it was first released and I just fell in love with it. I was amazed how user friendly it is to use. I actually liked it better than the Google extension in, but that’s just my opinion. Now I can get the survey and planning department off my back....jk. So tonight I installed the software and ran a quick test to see if there were any bugs in it’s first run. See video below. Now, lets see how long it takes Autodesk to turn this application from the beta testing phase to an Autodesk subscription download item. <br />
<br />
For those that have never heard or see Project Basejump, this technology preview application can be downloaded for free at the <a href="http://labs.autodesk.com/" target="_blank"><span style="color: red;"><strong><u>Autodesk Labs</u></strong></span></a> website. Autodesk Project Basejump provides a direct link to Microsoft Bing Map server (WMS) and is also an FDO provider for 2013 software products such as Civil 3D and Map 3D. Project Basejump technology preview includes aerials, road labels, and other information within Civil 3D and Map 3D. I would encourage everyone to test this application and see if it would benefit you in your daily design. Thanks for stopping bye. Have a great weekend everyone. <br />
