1. First I created a HGL profile by layout. I traced over the current HGL that is displayed by the pipe style.

2. Then I went into my profile properties and created HGL band style from my pipe data band set. Be sure that your band set is pulling from the correct profile data and data source. I also positioned my labels so they would display just above my pipe invert callouts.

3. Then I went into the pipe style composer and created a label that would display the grade line up.

4. Then I went back into my band style and edited my structure label style composer to display my grade line up. It was a little tricky getting both labels to line up next to each other.

5. Finally, I turned off my hydraulic grade line display in my pipe properties because I wanted to use the HGL profile that I created.

I know 2 other ways to label your HGL but I thought I would show yall this one first. Anyways, if you have a different way of doing this, please feel free to make some comments.
ok I noticed I did something wrong on here. On step 3 be sure to use the profile data type and not the pipe data type. In addition, for the pipe label styles be sure to use profile elevation and not hgl grade line because we are pull the information from the hgl profile line and not the pipe. ReplyDeleteI'm curently working in the middleast as storm water engineer. Unfortunately, most companies here use manual calculations for pipe sizes, hgl and other hydraulic calculations, some others create spreadsheets. I'm only using FlowMaster right now to calculate the pipe/culvert sizes, however, I'm manually calculating the HGLs of my drainage networks. And it takes time even I create a spreadsheet for it.
ReplyDeleteNow they give me AutocadCivil3D to use for profiles. Do you think I can use the hydroflow storm sewer extension for hydraulic calculations? Is this accurate? I can't seem to find a free ware that can help me with the calculations of HGL if I have a large network.
yes you can use this. if i remember right you cant change the hgl jump for pipe size changes though. we dont use negative jumps we use a 0.2 jump for pipe size changes. you can also you the new storm and sewer analysis program that comes with 2010 and 2011.
